School Profile

The French School in a few words
The French International School of Bombay (EFIB) was founded in 1983. It is a private institution under the Indian governing laws established as a non-profit organization (Charity Trust). The School is overseen by the Agency for French Education Abroad (AEFE), a part of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which includes more than 450 schools in 130 countries.

The density of the AEFE network is unparalleled in the world. Many expatriate families trust in this network because of the guarantee of quality and innovation the French educational system brings. The french schools worldwide network also ensures the continuity of your child’s education from one AEFE institution to another, so that no matter where in the world you move your child can continue their education without interruption.

Today, more than fifteen nationalities are represented at EFIB.

The opportunity offered by the school to attend a bilingual French / English program right from the start of your child’s education (pre-primary school), means that your child is uniquely positioned to excel in life. Many academic studies have proven that interacting in more than one language improves intelligence, confidence and job prospects later in life.

The ongoing commitment of the teaching team to open up to the prestigious culture of its host country, means your child will get a wonderful insight into French language, arts, cuisine and music. This blend of culture, dynamic and innovative teaching makes EFIB the right choice for your child. The school adheres to a strict security and hygiene protocol.

Bilingualism
EFIB is committed to creating a bilingual French / English learning environment. English and French are taught in all pre-primary and primary classes.

EFIB's bilingual education program allows children to master the curriculum as set by AEFE, in both the French and the English language from an early age. Classroom time is divided evenly between the two languages with a dedicated French and a dedicated English teacher who work cohesively to cover all curriculum areas. The school offers English as a Second Language (ESL) assistance for native French speaking children and French as a Foreign Language (FFL) assistance for native English or other language speakers. This ensures that all children have equal chances of success in both languages.

Bilingualism will only grow in its importance. The French educational system acknowledges the importance of bilingualism as it attracts an increasingly diverse student body and offers children of all backgrounds the opportunity to participate in the French educational system while developing a practical and working knowledge of English, which is essential in today’s global world. Both English and French are official languages of the European Union. The French language is spoken in over 25 countries.

EFIB offers students the opportunity to sit and be awarded the internationally recognised Cambridge University English Exam qualifications. These exams will assess General English competency and will ensure that EFIB students are performing to a high standard in English.
